ADULT EDUCATION
Our Adult Education program will get you on a path to achieving your high school equivalency diploma by preparing you for the HiSET exam at no cost to you. This exam replaced the former GED exam and is recognized throughout Louisiana as the high school equivalency exam.
We also offer English as a Foreign Language (ESL) classes for non-native English speakers.
For info or to register, call our office at 337.521.9056.
SoLAcc's Adult Education programs operate online and at the following campuses:
Students who are 19 years old or older are able to register for the HiSET exam. SoLAcc has nine HiSET testing centers that test each month. All testing candidates need to register for the HiSET online or by phone at 1 (855) My-HiSET. To register to take the test online, you will need to create an account and select the online test option.
- New student registration is currently by appointment only.
- If you are 16 or 17 years old, you must receive a waiver from your local school board to qualify for our adult education program. You must also attend a Teen Meeting with a parent or guardian BEFORE registering.
- All students between 16 and 18 years old must pass an official practice test administered by SoLAcc’s adult education program.

AEOnline Program Overview
Welcome to Adult Education Online! Our free online classes are built to help you prepare to successfully earn a high school equivalency diploma (HiSET, formerly known as the GED) and transition to college and career pathways.
We understand the challenges our students face when pursuing their education and the barriers that prevent them from being successful. Our program is designed to give you the flexibility to learn from anywhere and at any time.
These classes are delivered entirely online. All you need is a computer with internet access and the ability to manage your time effectively.
The only time students will have to come in person is for registration/pretesting as well as post testing at the end of each cohort. This may be done at the nearest SoLAcc site. All other work will be done remotely.
The program is designed to take students through a series of different courses in reading, writing and math.

Students who complete their high school equivalency diploma at South Louisiana Community College are eligible for the Chancellor's HiSET scholarship. Each HiSET completer will receive a certificate of eligibility that can apply a one-time $500 grant towards their SoLAcc education.
Our English Language Learner classes are designed to help students build their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. Our students take classes for many reasons, including to prepare for college, find a job, and to be more comfortable speaking English in the community.
After students take a placement test that measures English skills, they are placed into structured classes with other students at a similar level. A variety of lessons are designed to help each student meet their specific learning goal. Students practice in groups, individually, and with instructors to build their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.
