South Louisiana Community College remains one of Louisiana’s most affordable colleges. But, we understand our students still may need a little help with paying tuition. Our Financial Aid Office is here to help students in applying for Federal Student Aid, processing requests for TOPS and certifying VA Education Benefits.
We offer several types of aid. Discover which is right for you.
The Department of Education makes Pell Grant funds available to eligible students. Pell Grants do not have to be repaid and are based on financial criteria submitted on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The Department of Education makes Direct Student Loan funds available to eligible students. Loans must be repaid; repayment begins when a student drops below 6 credit hours or has been out of attendance for 180 days.
Federal Work Study:
Students interested in campus jobs can participate in the Federal Work Study program. You must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and have financial need to be eligible.
Eligibility requirements for Go Grants are determined by Louisiana Office of Student Financial Aid. Students must be residents of Louisiana, complete the FAFSA for the current Aid Year, and have remaining need after all other grant aid has been deducted from the Cost of Attendance.
If you are an AmeriCorps Beneficiary, you may be able to use your AmeriCorps funds to pay for college.
National Guard Tuition Exemption:
Under the Louisiana Statute R.S. 29:36.1, certain members of the Louisiana National Guard may be exempt from paying tuition.
The Strategies to Empower People Program helps work-eligible families of FITAP receive job training, employment and supportive services to help them to become self-sufficient.
TOPS funds are available to students who meet the qualifications determined by the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA).
VA Education Benefits:
Military veterans may be eligible for Education Benefits through the VA. Vets must first apply for these benefits through the VA website.
