Dr. Willie Smith, former Vice President for Academics and Workforce Solutions at SLCC, has accepted the position of Interim Director of South Central Louisiana Technical College, effective immediately.
“While we will miss Dr. Smith, we could ask for no better partner during the realignment of SCL as he has been immersed in the transition details since the initial realignment announcement,” said SLCC Chancellor Dr. Natalie Harder.
Dr. Smith has been associated with the Louisiana Community and Technical College System for nearly 17 years. He began his career with the former Louisiana Technical College in 2001 as the Director of the Youth BuildProgram. Since then, he has served in various roles including associate dean and most recently in his role at SLCC.
“As his résumé proves, Willie has a diverse skill set and many years of experience working in technical education and workforce development. As such, I feel Willie’s appointment will provide the leadership needed to continue moving SCL forward,” said Dr. Monty Sullivan, president of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System.
Dr. Smith shared his thoughts on the transition to SCL. “I am happy for the opportunity to support the realignment of SCL in order to continue to meet the workforce needs of South Louisia
na and to continue the great progress of improved student outcomes. Over the past few months, I have had the pleasure of working with and meeting many of the SCL faculty and staff and I look forward to our continued efforts to meet the needs of students and our community.”
In light of Dr. Smith’s new role, Dr. Vincent June, Vice Chancellor of Student Services, will assume the responsibility of Interim Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs in relation to credit bearing courses, programs and administration. Jermaine Ford, Director of SLCC’s Corporate College, will become the Associate Vice President for Workforce and Economic Development and oversee all non-credit education and training.
