The appropriate cap for graduates is the familiar navy blue “mortarboard.” The mortarboard is worn straight on the head with the point of the cap in the center of the forehead. The tassel should hang to the left of the face. Students are free to decorate the top of their graduation cap if desired.
The cap and gown for the SLCC Commencement Ceremony is navy blue and SLCC-branded. This SLCC Regalia can be purchased at the SLCC Bookstore for $50 (plus sales tax). No alternative cap or gown may be worn. For more information or to place an order, please visit Lafayette or New Iberia Campus Bookstore. The deadline for ordering regalia online has passed, but regalia can be purchased from the overstock in the SLCC Bookstore. All online orders are expected to be received by the Lafayette Campus Bookstore on April 30 and will be delivered to students' home campuses within a week of delivery. Please keep an eye on your email accounts for more details regarding graduation regalia delivery.
Honors Graduates and Phi Theta Kappa Graduates
Graduating with Honors and graduating as a Phi Theta Kappa member are two different achievements. Phi Theta Kappa is an honor society to which 3.0 students at SLCC are invited, and those students pay membership fees to join. Students who are Phi Theta Kappa members often graduate with honors, and Honors Graduates are often Phi Theta Kappa members, but joining PTK does not guarantee that a student will be an Honors Graduate. To graduate with honors, a student must have a Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher; these students will be given honors cords on the day of Commencement. PTK students can purchase PTK cords and stoles via the PTK online store: https://www.ptk.org/Store/Graduation.
A diploma holder will be issued to each candidate as he or she walks across the stage at the commencement ceremony, and a diploma will be given to each candidate once he or she walks off of the stage (except in the case that a student has a financial or academic hold). If you do not participate in the commencement ceremony, you may pick up your diploma from the Registrar’s Office beginning on the day after commencement and continuing through the next few weeks, or you may wait for it to be mailed to you; if you choose the latter option, be sure to confirm your mailing address with the Registrar’s Office. Diplomas are usually mailed 1-2 months after Commencement.
All graduates, friends, and families are advised to park in the back of the Cajundome Convention Center; turning off of Cajundome Boulevard onto Reinhardt Drive, all drivers should look for the parking lot on the left after the Convention Center. Parking in the front of the building is reserved for SLCC and Cajundome employees.
Approximately two weeks after graduation, all SLCC graduates will receive sample proofs of their graduation pictures along with order forms. Order forms will include instructions on how to students can order pictures as well as the price options from Candid Campus Photography. This information will be sent to the email on file with SLCC.
SLCC does NOT issue graduation tickets. Students are allowed to invite as many guests as they would like.
The SLCC Bookstore only sells official SLCC graduation announcements online, and the deadline for online orders has passed. Feel free to create your own announcements/invitations using your preferred software and printing processes.
After the commencement recession, you and your family are welcome to enjoy the many refreshments provided; these will be located near the main entrance of the convention center. Flowers as well as SLCC Spring 2018 Graduation t-shirts will be available for graduates and family purchase.

SLCC will provide disability services for the ceremony. To request arrangements for graduates or guests of graduates with special needs, please contact the Coordinator of Disability Services, Kimberly Lachney at (337) 521-6915 or email@example.com.
