South Louisiana Community College’s Practical Nursing program is hosting an informational session on Friday, July 7 at the college’s Opelousas campus. The event will start at 10 a.m.
Those in attendance will meet with Student Services staff and instructors to discuss the program and class requirements, learn how to apply for classes, and learn more about applying for financial assistance.
Practical nursing graduates can sit for the exam to become Licensed Practical Nurses. LPNs can earn about $40,000 annually in Acadiana, according to the Louisiana Workforce Commission. LPNs provide basic nursing care and work under the direction of registered nurses and doctors.
As the baby-boom population ages, the overall need for healthcare services is expected to increase. LPNs will be needed in residential care facilities and in home health environments to care for geriatric patients.
