STEM Faculty Create Scholarship

Faculty from SLCC’s STEM division recently created a faculty-funded student scholarship. Scholarship applications open Thursday, March 15.

“The STEM scholarship is a way for faculty to recognize and support outstanding students pursuing a program or career in STEM,” said STEM Dean Darcee Bex.

Volunteer faculty formed a committee chaired by Ariel Dauzart, biology instructor, to determine guidelines and eligibility criteria for the scholarship. The STEM scholarship will be funded by faculty donations with a match made by Dean Bex.

Full- or part-time students with a 3.0 GPA or above with at least nine credit hours towards a program in the STEM division or General Studies degree with at least nine credit hours completed in math and/or science majors courses are invited to apply for the scholarship. Additionally, students will be required to answer essay questions regarding why they are applying and what type of community service they participate in.

Eligible STEM programs include:  Associate of Science-Louisiana Transfer; Aviation Maintenance Technology; Civil, Survey & Mapping Technology; Drafting and Design Technology; Industrial Electronics Technology; Industrial Technology; and Nondestructive Testing.
