New Student Orientation

New Student Orientation provides students with valuable information about campus resources, academic programs, student services, and all that SLCC has to offer. The Student Engagement Office provides orientation for all first time freshman, parents, veterans and adult learners.

First Time-Freshman

Making a smooth transition to life South Louisiana Community College is an important aspect of student success. Students are invited to immerse themselves in SLCC’s campus culture, and academic programs by taking advantage of the freshman new student orientation program. Students will learn about challenges you’ll encounter during your first year, financial aid, advisement, and campus safety and security.

As the parent or family member of a new student, we recognize that the transition to South Louisiana Community College can be both exciting and stressful. Thus, we have created an orientation program just for parents embedded within our freshman orientation. This parent orientation will focus on providing parents with important information to answer their questions, as well as prepare them to be the college’s partner in promoting their student's independence and success.

The South Louisiana Community College Veterans orientation was developed with three main objectives.

  • To provide information to student veterans prior to arriving on campus on topics that might be useful in the transition to South Louisiana Community College
  • To provide an opportunity for student veterans to meet other student veterans in the hopes of developing comfortable, safe, and supportive community while on campus.
  • To provide both student veterans and their family members information on available student resources and other topics that will be useful while a student at South Louisiana Community College

Adult Learners

Whether this is the first time you will set foot on a college campus, or whether you are returning to college after taking a few years off, as an adult learner, you may have some questions and concerns that differ from traditional students. The adult learner orientation is geared toward addressing concerns regarding re-entry and transition of college students ages 25 and older.
