Opelousas Welding Program Makes Thanksgiving Donation

The T. H. Harris Campus Welding Department held its annual Thanksgiving Drive benefiting over 30 families, as well as the homeless shelters in Opelousas.

Once again, the Welding program at South Louisiana Community College's Opelousas campus is helping the community for Thanksgiving. The T. H. Harris Campus Welding Department held its annual Thanksgiving Drive benefiting over 30 families, as well as the homeless shelters in Opelousas. Instructor David Charles and the Welding department have been leading this drive for almost 20 years. The drive for the last seven years has been dedicated to the memory of former welding student Eddie "Gator" Dekerlegand.

Each family received a turkey, pork roast, or ham, along with a box filled with everything needed for a complete Thanksgiving dinner - including dessert.

"Special thanks goes to welding alumni Kescheler Antoine, Jason Drummer, and Wilfred Malbrough, all of our current students," said Instructor David Charles. "Instructor Craig Boyd look forward to continuing this valued tradition next year."
