In an effort to serve students and ensure learning continuity during the COVID-19 pandemic, the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARP) gave the U.S. Department of Education funds to distribute to institutions of higher education through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF III). A portion of the ARP funds were set aside and awarded through an application process, the Supplemental Support under the American Rescue Plan (SSARP) program. South Louisiana Community College was awarded SSARP funds. A portion of the funds were required to be distributed as direct student aid (SSARP grants).

FEBRUARY 2022
january 2022
The safety of our students and employees continues to be priority one. Based on our continued review of the Omicron variant, we anticipate a rise in COVID-19 cases from the holidays.
Out of caution for this anticipated rise, we have adjusted classes during the Spring 2022 semester. Please note that all classes will still begin on Monday, January 10, 2022. These adjustments to the semester are anticipated to last through Friday, January 28, 2022, with in-person classes to resume on Monday, January 31, 2022.
We encourage students to monitor their college email for important updates and from instructors for course-specific instructions.
See the Class Changes here.
Due to the surge in COVID-19 with the Omicron variant, SLCC will continue to follow the previously established protocols for the start of the Spring 2022 semester. The safety of faculty, staff, and students is our priority. Protocols include the masking requirement, daily screenings, and enhanced cleaning/disinfecting.
All students, employees, visitors, and vendors are required to wear a mask or face covering over the nose and mouth to enter any facility owned or operated by SLCC. Anyone who does not have a face mask will receive one from security upon entry. Masks must be worn in all public open access areas, such as hallways, restrooms (unless single occupancy), and common areas. Masks do not need to be worn if the employee is working alone, but masks must be worn when students or other staff/faculty would enter. Front desk employees who do not have a private workspace may remove their mask when they are alone but must re-mask if anyone enters the area. Social distancing is not a requirement but is encouraged whenever possible. Enhanced hygiene practices, including hand washing and use of sanitizer, is strongly encouraged.
At this time, SLCC is still allowing the mask exemption related to individuals giving a speech to an audience. This would include event speakers and faculty. Faculty have the option to remove their mask once class is in session and lecture begins. Faculty must ensure adequate social distancing of six feet prior to removing their mask and they must notify the class prior to removal to allow any student the opportunity to move further back if they so choose.
The Daily Check-In process, along with limited building access points, will remain in place as a method of gathering data for the State and Department of Health. The following reporting links are to be utilized for anyone who receives a positive COVID test:

As of Monday, December 17, 2021 the CDC shortened the recommended time for isolation.
People with COVID-19 should isolate for 5 days. If they are asymptomatic or their symptoms are resolving (without fever for 24 hours), an additional 5 days of wearing a mask when around others will minimize the risk of infecting people they encounter.
The recommended quarantine period for anyone who is exposed to COVID-19 is as follows:
- Unvaccinated CDC recommends quarantine for 5 days followed by strict mask use for an additional 5 days.
- Vaccinated individuals more than six months out from their second mRNA dose (or more than 2 months after the J&J vaccine) and not yet boosted, CDC recommends quarantine for 5 days followed by strict mask use for an additional 5 days. (Approximately 35% effective)
- Boosted Individuals do not need to quarantine following an exposure, but should wear a mask for 10 days after the exposure. (Approximately 75% effective)
Please note that CDC guidance is fluid based on data and may change at any time.

The safety of faculty, staff, and students is a priority at SLCC. COVID infections have been on the rise in the state. As you may know, COVID-19 is thought to spread mainly through close contact from person-to-person in respiratory droplets from someone who is infected.
As such, SLCC is issuing a Mask Mandate effective 7-27-21. The COVID Self-Screening process will remain in place and all students and employees will be required to complete the daily screenings.
All employees must wear a mask to enter any facility owned or operated by SLCC. All students, employees, visitors, and vendors are required to wear a mask or face covering over the nose and mouth. Anyone who does not have a face mask will receive one from security upon entry. Please utilize a personal mask if you have one. Masks must be worn in all public open access areas, such as hallways, restrooms (unless single occupancy), and common areas. While wearing a mask, social distancing is not a requirement, but is encouraged whenever possible.
Facility personnel, along with contracted janitorial services, have maintained the added cleaning and disinfecting previously implemented. Enhanced hygiene practices, including hand washing and use of sanitizer, is strongly encouraged.

January 2021
Dear SLCC Students,
Welcome to the Spring 2021 semester! Whether you are a brand-new student to our college or a continuing student, your health and wellness is our priority.
We recognize your commitment in the face of the global COVID-19 pandemic and appreciate that you’ve chosen to study with us.
Based on the science and data collected over the past nine months, including various holidays, we anticipate a rise in COVID-19 cases among college age individuals (19-30 years-old). Out of caution of this anticipated rise, we have made adjustments to classes during the Spring 2021 semester.
You should have already received an email (but no later than Friday, January 8th at 5 p.m.) from your instructors about these adjustments with specific details about your courses. Your instructors will serve as your point-of-contact should you have any questions about your courses.
Please continue to monitor your college email for important updates from the college and from your instructors. You can also follow the college on Facebook, Twitter, and on our website for updates.
I hope this semester is a successful one for you. I look forward to celebrating your achievements.
Sincerely,
Vincent
Chancellor
