Center for Minority Excellence participants receive a variety of support services to ensure success while at SLCC.
Intrusive Academic Advising and Assistance
Participants will learn to:
- successfully navigate LOLA and the SLCC website
- understand their program curriculums
- develop an academic success plan
Mentoring Support
Participants will:
- be encouraged to achieve academic excellence
- be empowered to take responsibility for achieving goals
- be exposed to resources and services to help improve success
Tutorial Assistance and Support
Participants will:
- receive one-on-one and small group tutoring
- learn study skill techniques
- have access to resources such as computer lab and books

Early Warning and Referral Services
Participants will:
- have an early opportunity to correct performance issues
- be able to calculate their GPA
- be able to identify and discuss personal barriers to success
Workshops, Seminars, and Presentations
Participants will:
- participate in workshops designed to encourage academic success
- be engaged in a learning and supportive environment
- be exposed to resources and services to help improve success
TUTORING
As a qualified participant of the Center for Minority Excellence, we offer tutoring to the participants during the course of the year. The earlier you request tutoring, the more likely you are to be able to schedule your session at a convenient time that works for you. Contact us at the center as soon as possible to avoid the rush. You will not believe in the difference that tutoring will make in your life.

- Math: Math 0083, 0093, 1105
- English and Math 0093 is a supplement to English 1010 and Math 1105 courses.

Starfish is an electronic system that connects a student to his/her advisors, professors, and resources in the student’s success network. With a click of a button, students can schedule appointments with instructors, advisors, tutoring, Registrar, Financial Aid, Counseling, and other essential offices to get the help needed to succeed at SLCC.
