Staff Awards
Several awards are designed for staff. Please see the criteria for all awards below and nominate a staff member today. The deadline for all nominations is May 31, 2023. Award recipients will be announced this Fall.
Awards will be earned in the categories of Rising Star Award, Community Impact Award, Behind the Scenes Award, Improving our Workplace Award, College Engagement Award, Everyday Excellence Divisional Awards, and Chancellor’s Outstanding Award.
Rising Star Award (1-Staff and 1-faculty)
Do you know a faculty or staff who shows promise at the college? Someone who is making a substantial impact on the SLCC community in the short time (less than 2-years) that they have been an employee? Nominate them for our Rising Star Award.
General Information & Criteria: This award recognizes performances occurring between April 1, 2022 and March 31, 2023. The award acknowledges SLCC employees (faculty and staff) who demonstrate a passion for their work, while exemplifying professionalism and dedication to the mission of their department and the College. The award provides recognition to employees who demonstrate a quality of performance that indicates they will continue to develop into an exemplary employee. Those placing nominations must be able to explain how the nominee has demonstrated a combination of the following:
- Demonstrates initiative in providing guidance and assistance
- Searches for ways to help coworkers
- Responds positively to request for assistance
- Shares information and ideas to help others achieve their goals
- Routinely goes above and beyond expectations when completing tasks
- Supports team decisions and projects while being an active contributor to help the team achieve its shared goal
- Creative problem solver that changes physical or attitudinal barriers beyond the scope of their job to improve service
- Demonstrate leadership abilities and contributions to quality improvement within their department

community impact award (Staff or faculty eligible. All employees)
Do you know of an employee who has had significant influence on the communities served by SLCC? Now is your opportunity to nominate someone for the Community Impact Award.
General Information & Criteria: This award recognizes performance occurring between April 1, 2022 and March 31, 2023. The award is presented with a focus to highlight and recognize a staff and/or faculty member that has demonstrated a commitment to community service. The identified individual(s) would have contributed ongoing impact and service to the communities SLCC serves and beyond. All staff and faculty are eligible for this award.

- Please explain the nominee’s deep commitment to partnering with others to address community issues.

Behind the Scenes Award (1-Staff)
Do you know of an employee who does not get enough recognition? Someone who works hard but seem to never openly seek recognition or credit. Now is your opportunity to nominate someone for the Behind-the-Scenes Award.
General Information & Criteria: This award recognizes performance occurring between April 1, 2022 and March 31, 2023. The award is given to a staff member who works in a position that does not directly interact with students, but they still live the SLCC mission and effectively performs his/her duties in a manner that enhances the work environment for students, faculty and/or staff. This employee is seen, but not often heard, producing high quality work that makes it possible for the College to run smoothly.
Please complete the following segments to be considered for the Behind-The-Scenes Award.
- Please explain how the nominee shows a commitment to SLCC through their initiative and outstanding customer service to employees, students and/or visitors, always treating others with dignity and respect.
- Please explain how the nominee displays an unwavering commitment to their role.
- Please write a brief description of why you wish to recognize this colleague’s good work. Please include why it is important to you and how it made a difference.
Improving Our Workplace Award (1-Staff)
Is there someone who is making a positive difference in the results your workplace is achieving? Nominate them for the Improving Our Workplace Award.
General Information & Criteria: This award recognizes performance occurring between April 1, 2022 and March 31, 2023. The award is to recognize individuals or a team whose efforts demonstrate at least three of the following four components in striving towards goals set forth in our strategic plan and served as a positive change agent that resulted in improved work processes and increased efficiency. Those placing nominations must be able to explain how the nominee has demonstrated:
- Initiative
- Innovation
- Measurable Results
- Sustaining Impact
The nomination should show lasting positive results in at least one of these areas:
- Cost-saving and/or Stewardship of college resources
- Customer satisfaction (students, parents, employees)
- Enhancing the stakeholder experience
- Healthy working relationships and a supportive environment
- Process improvement and/or Project development
- Safety
- Development or dissemination of knowledge that enhanced the student or employee experience
Please complete the following segments to be considered for the Improving Our Workplace Award.
- Initiative: Please describe the challenge in the workplace improved by the efforts of the nominated staff. Include who recognized the need for change and who initiated the efforts to improve the workplace. How did the nominee(s) show initiative with this project.
- Innovation: Illustrate the innovative efforts of the individual or team in improving the workplace.
- Sustaining Impact*: Explain how the change is sustaining and embedded in the workplace, using data when possible.
- Measurable Results: Confirm the impact in the workplace by the nominated staff member(s), using data when possible. How is the impact of the improvement measurable? (you are not required to submit actual data).

College Engagement Award (Formerly Distinguished Achiever Award)
Know of an employee who has committed themselves to advance SLCC initiatives, projects, and activities outside of the normal job responsibilities of their job? Nominate them for the College Engagement Award.
General Information & Criteria: This award recognizes performance occurring between April 1, 2022 and March 31, 2023. The award is to recognize an employee who extends their commitment to the institution through exemplary participation and engagement in volunteer activities within the college, through service on committees, working on special projects, or volunteering to assist with events or programs (e.g., Commencement and/or Convocation) that are outside of the scope of their normal job duties. Those that nominate must be able to explain how the nominee has demonstrated the following:
- Extraordinary work performance while maintaining constructive engagement in activities beyond normal job duties and responsibilities.
- Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with internal stakeholders of SLCC
- Regularly exhibit a willingness to help others
- Demonstrates enthusiasm for a commitment to the SLCC family
- Enhances morale
- Contributes to college life and advancement of initiatives.

General Information & Criteria: This award recognizes performance occurring between April 1, 2022 and March 31, 2023. The award was established to honor a campus community member who embodies the SLCC promise of Everyday Excellence and exemplifies the college’s core values through Accountability, Collaboration, Innovation, Integrity, Respect, Service, and Trust. The employee has a positive and influential impact on the work environment, displays professionalism and initiative, and fosters cooperation and collaboration among peers and supervisors while carrying out their daily job responsibilities.
Please complete the segments below to be considered for the Everyday Excellence Award. Nominations must be supported with detailed information and linked to our values.

Chancellor’s Outstanding Award (staff or faculty eligible. all employees)
Do you know someone who motivates and inspires colleagues to continuously improve? Someone who acts as a role model, an inspiration and/or a source of support in the workplace and demonstrates a dedicated interest in helping others succeed? Nominate them for the Chancellor’s Award.
General Information & Criteria: This award recognizes performance occurring between April 1, 2022 and March 31, 2023. The award provides an opportunity for employees to acknowledge a colleague for outstanding service and performance in the workplace. This award exemplifies brilliance in exhibiting SLCC workplace values, including honesty, leadership, cooperation, respect, and civility. Those placing nominations must be able to explain how the nominee has demonstrated a combination of the following:
- How the nominee has helped a colleague or colleagues be successful
- Leadership development
- Commitment to innovation, adaptation, and efficiency
- Helping staff and/or students develop an understanding of SLCC core values
- Commitment to mentorship
