VILLE PLATTE – Citizens in Evangeline Parish who want to earn their high school equivalency diploma will be able to do so close to home. South Louisiana Community College is expanding its Adult Education Program to its C.B. Coreil Campus in Ville Platte.
Registration for the first class is set for 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11 with classes starting the following week on Monday, Sept. 18. The campus is located at 1124 Vocational Drive in Ville Platte.
“We’re excited to expand adult education programming to an additional SLCC campus,” said Connor Chauveaux, Adult Basic Education manager. “New and returning adult education students will not only be taking classes, they’ll also have access to resources and services, along with dual enrollment opportunities, and distance learning.”
Earlier this year, SLCC expanded its Adult Education program in Lafayette Parish and in May began offering a fully online program.
More than 600,000 workers aged 18 to 64 in Louisiana lack a high school diploma or equivalent in a time when many jobs go unfilled. The eight-parish Acadiana region has more than 54,000 individuals lacking a high school education.
Proven Adult Education programs benefit businesses, workers, job seekers, and the community at-large.
SLCC has existing Adult Education services in Acadia, Lafayette, St. Martin, and Vermilion parishes. Classes are held on campuses in Abbeville, Crowley, Lafayette, and St. Martinville.
“By expanding and offering these services to a larger percentage of individuals in the Acadiana region, many more lives are changed for the better, and communities are transformed as a result,” said John Hendricks, SLCC’s Director of Adult Education.
