South Louisiana Community College will offer a Phlebotomy Technician course in New Iberia in August. This program will provide students with the information and skills needed to collect blood specimens in a healthcare setting.
In this 10-week course evening course, students will have eight weeks of classroom instruction and two weeks of clinical training where they will learn the technical and procedural aspects of basic phlebotomy. Books and a test voucher for the Phlebotomy Technician Certification (CPT) are included in tuition.
According the Bureau of Labor, employment of phlebotomists is projected to grow 23 percent from 2018 to 2028. Hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, blood donor centers, and other locations will need phlebotomists to perform bloodwork.
