Mary Morrison, Campus Director - Acadian Campus
A familiar face is leading South Louisiana Community College’s Acadian Campus as campus director. As the campus director, Mary Morrison will have oversight of campus operations and act as a liaison for new and continuing students, as well as local officials, community organizations, the K-12 school system, and the community at large.
Morrison, who has been employed at South Louisiana Community College for nearly two decades, most recently worked as a Student Success Advisor, but has a rich history of supporting education and community engagement across the region.
Mary is the first African American woman to serve on the Lafayette Parish School Board and as their President, was the first African American woman to serve on the Lafayette Consolidated Council and is a former First Lady of the City of Scott. She has a wealth of insight and connectivity that give her a unique advantage to running a campus.
“In order to lead, we must be willing to give of ourselves and share our knowledge. As the new campus director, I plan to apply what I have learned in my past endeavors and lead from a position of service,” said Morrison.
Mary recognizes the importance of continuous improvement and was recently acknowledged as the 2020 SLCC “Everyday Excellence Award” recipient. She plans to work on the Acadian Campus’ connection to the citizens of Crowley to build meaningful relationships and continued success for her students.
“The best part about working for the community college is that we really are a part of the community,” Morrison said. She also hopes to help the community leverage the diverse array of resources the college has to offer.
One of Morrison’s top priorities will be working with administration to establish a Community Advisory Board for the campus. This board will provide an opportunity for selected members of the community to meet with SLCC campus leadership and provide advice, general recommendations, and information. In addition, Morrison will provide updates on the campus and college to members of the advisory board and work together with the board to develop and execute mutual goals.
When asked about Morrison’s shift, SLCC Chancellor Dr. Vincent June had this to say, “Mary, like many of our faculty and staff, is active outside of our college. She has a generous spirit and a real commitment to student success. We are excited to have her continue her journey here at SLCC in such a critical capacity.”
Morrison earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and a master's degree in education from the University of Phoenix.
