South Louisiana Community College will be showing off their skills in national competitions for SkillsUSA this summer. Students and staff from SLCC recently attended the SkillsUSA competition in Alexandria. During the April competition, SLCC won gold in three categories including Practical Nursing, Health Occupations Portfolio and First Aid and CPR. The gold winners will be going to Atlanta, Georgia this summer to represent Louisiana in the SkillsUSA national competition.

Students from Louisiana's community and technical colleges that attended the SkillsUSA Conference had the opportunity to display their technical ability, leadership skills, and knowledge over the three-day event and compete in one of over 50 competitions.

“We have an amazing team. I was so thrilled to hear our students’ expression of excitement and enjoyment at the conference and I was very honored to recognized for commitment to service,” explains Toni Celestine, SLCC Career and Testing Services Director.

Celestine received the Volunteer Champion Award at this year’s competition. It was her first year as a volunteer on the planning committee, and in addition to ensuring SLCC students were supported throughout the competition, she also organized the TECHSPO career fair for the event.
