Practical Nursing Night and Weekend Classes in Lafayette

New Practical Nursing classes at SLCC Lafayette

SLCC is excited to announce the expansion of its Practical Nursing (PN) program with the introduction of new night and weekend classes on the Lafayette Campus. These flexible class options will provide aspiring nurses in Acadiana the opportunity to start their higher education journey while accommodating their work and personal schedules.

The PN program is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the licensure requirements for Licensed Practical Nurses. This comprehensive program encompasses classroom instruction, hands-on lab practicum, and supervised clinical activities in accredited hospitals, nursing homes, and other healthcare agencies.

Applications for the new night and weekend Practical Nursing classes will be open from October 9th through November 10th, and classes are scheduled to commence in January.

A link to the Practical Nursing application packet can be found here.

Prospective students can join a virtual information session on October 30 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Microsoft Teams.

"Expanding our PN program to include night and weekend classes is a significant step forward in providing accessible and flexible educational opportunities for our community," said Carry DeAtley, Dean of Nursing and Allied Health. "We understand the demands on our students' time, and these new options will allow them to pursue a rewarding career in nursing without compromising their other commitments."

Upon successful completion of the Practical Nursing program, graduates will be prepared to embark on fulfilling careers in various healthcare settings, such as hospitals, physician's offices, nursing care facilities, schools, or home healthcare services. The average starting salary for LPNs in Louisiana was $43,900 in 2021, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
