In a testament to its unwavering commitment to high-quality education, SLCC clinched the title of Louisiana's Best Community College according to Intelligent.com for 2023 and now once again in 2024. The recognition, based on a thorough evaluation of various factors including tuition costs, graduation rates, and coursework quality, affirms SLCC's dedication to accessible and impactful education.

Expanding Opportunities in Manufacturing Technology

Responding to the surging demand for skilled workers in Acadiana's manufacturing sector, SLCC expanded its Manufacturing Technology program. The program, now operating at two SLCC campuses, not only addresses the industry demand but also aligns with the projected 39% growth in the fabricated metal manufacturing workforce over the next decade. This strategic move showcases SLCC's proactive approach to ensure a well-trained workforce supporting the region's flourishing manufacturing industry.

Showcasing Student Excellence

SLCC students demonstrated their prowess at the SkillsUSA competition, securing gold in three categories: Practical Nursing, Health Occupations Portfolio, and First Aid and CPR. This success not only earned them the opportunity to represent Louisiana at the national level but also highlighted SLCC's dedication to nurturing technical abilities, leadership skills, and knowledge among its students. The historic gold win at the national SkillsUSA debut for Practical Nursing further solidified SLCC's commitment to excellence.

Seamless Transfers for Academic Success

In a move to facilitate academic success and career advancement, SLCC entered into two new 2+2 agreements with the University of Holy Cross and McNeese State University. These agreements offer students clear pathways to seamlessly transfer from SLCC's associate degree programs to complete their bachelor's degree, reinforcing SLCC's commitment to education and supporting students' goals.

Metallica Scholars Initiative: Transformative Opportunities

Selected as one of the prestigious schools to join All Within My Hands' Metallica Scholars Initiative, SLCC takes a significant step in providing transformative opportunities for students in the local community. SLCC was selected from a competitive pool of applicants to receive $100,000, enabling the college to strengthen its Precision Machining Technology program. Initiatives like Metallica Scholars, launched in partnership with the American Association of Community Colleges, allow SLCC to lead the state in career and technical education.

Collaboration with First Solar: Pioneering Sustainable Energy

Partnering with First Solar, the largest solar energy manufacturer in the Western Hemisphere, SLCC has been at the forefront of addressing workforce needs, ensuring a skilled labor force to support the $1.1 billion solar facility. Playing a pivotal role in the establishment of a cutting-edge solar module manufacturing facility in Iberia demonstrates SLCC’s continued involvement in shaping Acadiana’s workforce and efforts to support sustainable energy endeavors in the region. This collaboration contributes to Louisiana's leadership in the energy sector and showcases SLCC's dedication to fostering innovation.
