South Louisiana Community College (SoLAcc) and the National EMS Academy (NEMSA) are offering an exciting opportunity for aspiring emergency medical technicians (EMTs) this summer with a tuition-free EMT class starting on May 27, 2024.

Here's everything you need to know about the training.

**PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL CLASSES ARE FULL AND ADMISSIONS WILL NO LONGER BE ACCEPTED**

The course begins with an orientation on May 21-22 and will wrap up in early August. While the course itself is free, people interested should note that there are potential out-of-pocket costs to consider, including books, uniforms, a computing device (if not already owned), background screening, CPR certification, physical exams, medical supplies, and various exam and licensing fees.

Classes will be held at multiple SoLAcc/NEMSA sites across Louisiana, including Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Covington, Houma, Lafayette, Lake Charles, and New Orleans, ensuring accessibility for students across the region.

One of the most exciting aspects of completing this course is the potential for employment opportunities. Students who successfully complete the EMT class and pass the National Registry Certification are eligible for hiring consideration with Acadian Ambulance.

“This free EMT class represents an incredible opportunity for people interested in pursuing a career in emergency medical services,” explains Dr. Harmony Rochon, SOLAcc’s Assistant Dean of Allied Health. “With the combined resources and expertise of SoLAcc and NEMSA, participants can embark on a rewarding educational journey that opens doors to a fulfilling and impactful career in healthcare.”

To get started, interested individuals should visit becomeamedic.com and review the Louisiana EMT Course packet to understand the course's details thoroughly. They should then complete a SPRING 2024 EMT Workforce application on SoLAcc’s website, indicating their preferred class location.

After submitting the application, students should monitor their email accounts closely for further instructions. It may take up to three business days for their accounts to be processed in the NEMSA student portal, where they will receive information about selecting an orientation date.
