South Louisiana Community College (SoLAcc) is thrilled to announce a second, outstanding showing at the national SkillsUSA competition. The National SkillsUSA competition, held in June, brought together over 16,000 individuals, including students, instructors, and industry professionals. The participating students had previously emerged victorious at the state-level competitions, ensuring that only the best of the best competed.
SoLAcc Winners:
- Leann Birchfield: Gold in Practical Nursing (two-time national champion!)
- Alexis Ardoin: Gold in Health Occupations Professional Portfolio
- Courtney Louviere: Silver in Medical Assisting
"The success of these students highlights their dedication and skill, underscoring the quality of education and training provided by SoLAcc. Their achievements at the SkillsUSA National Championship reflect the College’s commitment to preparing students for career excellence and contributions to the broader community," said Toni Celestine, SkillsUSA Chapter Advisor/Director of Career & Testing Services for SoLAcc. "We are incredibly proud of Leann Birchfield, Alexis Ardoin, and Courtney Louviere for their outstanding performances and the hard work they put in to reach this level."
During the national competition, students compete against their peers and race against the clock to demonstrate their expertise in their chosen fields. Industry, trade associations, and labor organizations support the development of the contests, with competencies set by industry standards. This annual event draws students, teachers, and education leaders from across the country, and the competition is fierce.
SoLAcc would also like to congratulate Dr. Damian Glover, Executive Director for Student Services, who was recognized by SkillsUSA with an Honorary Life Member Award during the National Leadership & Skills Conference Opening Session. Honorary Life is SkillsUSA’s highest honor, reserved for those who dedicate service to the organization over a long period of time.
