All South Louisiana Community College classes will go remote starting at noon Thursday, Oct. 8, and will be canceled Friday, Oct. 9. Campuses and offices will move to remote operations starting at noon Thursday and be closed Friday. Classes and business operations are expected to resume Monday, Oct. 12.

South Louisiana Community College is currently monitoring Hurricane Delta in the Gulf of Mexico. Two classes of South Louisiana Community College’s recent Practical Nursing graduates successfully achieved a 100 percent National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN) board pass rate on their first time taking the exam. The two classes include the December 2019 classes from the Lafayette and the Crowley campuses. For three consecutive years, students in the PN program in Lafayette received 100 percent pass rates.

Two new members have joined the 2020-21 Board of Directors for the South Louisiana Community College Foundation. The new members began a four-year term on July 1.

This week, the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) launched Reboot Your Career, a program designed to support workers who may be unemployed due to COVID-19 and re-train them for available jobs on high-wage career pathways.

South Louisiana Community College will offer an Ophthalmic Assistant course starting in October. Students will learn about eye anatomy, eye diseases, and basic ophthalmic pharmacology. This course is a non-credit course offered by SLCC’s Corporate College division. The Ophthalmic Assistant course is 27 hours, meeting three evenings a week for three weeks. This course will be offered once a year, with limited seating. This is an in-person course held at SLCC Lafayette. Tuition is $550.

South Louisiana Community College is continuing to monitor Tropical Storm Sally in the Gulf of Mexico. All campuses are expected to continue operations as usual with the exception of three National EMS Academy sites in the New Orleans area. All SLCC students are invited to attend the SLCC/JCPenney Suit-Up Event on September 13 from 6 - 9 p.m. The event will be held at JCPenney located at 3125 Louisiana Avenue, Lafayette, LA  70501.

The Office of Financial Aid is now accepting student employment applications for the Fall 2020 semester. Students can gain skillful experience with the flexibility to work in-between classes. Both on and off campus positions are available. Students can earn $8 an hour (On campus) or $10 an hour (Off campus / Community) and are paid on a bi-weekly basis.

The Center for Minority Excellence is hosting a series of workshops on staying healthy. This year-long series will focus on equipping SLCC students, faculty, and staff with the tools to achieve and maintain mental fitness.

As the situation with COVID–19 continues, we will make proactive decisions that are grounded in providing services to our students, while also doing our part to help stop the spread of the virus. Your safety while learning is our top priority. As such – we will be offering four formats for Fall courses.

The Adult Education program will be holding registration for the following sites during the month of August: Abbeville, Crowley, Franklin, Lafayette, Morgan City, New Iberia, St. Martinville, and Ville Platte.

South Louisiana Community College will offer a Phlebotomy Technician course in New Iberia in August. This program will provide students with the information and skills needed to collect blood specimens in a healthcare setting. In this 10-week course evening course, students will have eight weeks of classroom instruction and two weeks of clinical training where they will learn the technical and procedural aspects of basic phlebotomy.

SLCC is offering guidance to its international students in response to July 7, 2020, news release by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.  The Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) guidelines posted on Monday, July 6 modified the temporary exemptions related to the online study policy instituted for the spring and summer semesters.

South Louisiana Community College will be holding a Drive-Thru Recognition Ceremony on July 16th and 17th to honor Spring 2020 graduates.

SLCC partners with CASHNet to let you pay tuition and fees over time, making college more affordable.  The earlier you sign up for a payment plan, the smaller your payments can be.

Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) has established an endowment fund to benefit nursing students at South Louisiana Community College in honor of the late Michael McElderry, who provided cardiovascular care to the Acadiana community for nearly 30 years.

The Corporate College Division of South Louisiana Community College has partnered with online training provider, Ed2Go, to offer 10 of its online courses at no charge until June 30, 2020. Classes to choose from are Creating Web Pages, Creating WordPress Websites, Fundamentals of Supervision and Management, Twelve Steps to a Successful Job Search, Keys to Effective Communication, Managing Customer Service, Marketing Your Business on the Internet, Personal Finance, Small Business Marketing on a Shoestring, and Individual Excellence.

In an effort to provide the least amount of disruption should there be a COVID-19 resurgence, we’ve updated our instructional options for the Fall semester. In addition to our online and on-campus offerings, we are increasing the number of hybrid courses.
