We're proud of each our graduates from Spring 2020. We aren't to host a ceremony just yet but we wanted to share our Graduation Program anyway.

The SLCC Foundation is honoring a strong supporter of the community college and communities across Acadiana with its most prestigious award. The SLCC Foundation named Gulf Coast Bank its 2020 Benefactor of the Year. The College plans to recognize Gulf Coast Bank’s widespread impact throughout the Vermilion Parish and Acadiana communities during a ceremony later this year when it is deemed safe to gather.

The Offices of Financial Aid and Student Accounts are currently working diligently to process the disbursement of financial aid funds. Financial aid is disbursed onto the student account at a date determined by the Financial Aid Department each semester. Refunds of financial aid are transferred to BankMobile usually within 14 days following the disbursement date.

In an effort to provide the least amount of disruption should there be a COVID-19 resurgence, we’ve updated our instructional options for the Fall semester. In addition to our online and on-campus offerings, we are increasing the number of hybrid courses.

Today, Monty Sullivan, president of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System, appointed Dr. Vincent June as Interim Chancellor of South Louisiana Community College (SLCC). June's appointment is effective Saturday, May 30, 2020. Dr. June was appointed interim chancellor as a result of Dr. Natalie Harder accepting the Presidency at Coker University in South Carolina. Harder served as chancellor of SLCC for eight years.

Students that rented textbooks from the SLCC Campus Bookstores in Lafayette and New Iberia can return these textbooks to avoid late charges and non-return fees in two ways. Students can visit the bookstore website at slcclafayetteshop.com where at the top of the front page of the website, there is a link for printing a free FedEx shipping label as well as instructions for packing and shipping the box.

SLCC re-established essential services at its campuses on Monday, May 18, 2020. To maintain proper safety protocols during Phase 1, campus staff are returning to offices in limited capacity and will continue to offer our full range of services to current and prospective students through phone, e-mail, chat features, and video calls.

Students can now submit requested financial aid documents from any electronic device through our new secure upload feature! A step-by-step guide to submitting documents can be found below or anytime at www.solacc.edu/financial-aid.

The college, LHC Group, and the Myers Family Foundation are partnering on a five-year project called “A Legacy of Caring in the Home and Community.” The $2.5 million funding behind the project is historic in itself, and represents the largest private investment in a community college in Louisiana.

South Louisiana Community College is currently finalizing the list of students that meet all eligibility requirements as outlined above. We want to carefully review all students to make sure that everyone that is eligible receives the funds. We appreciate your patience.

Rest assured, we are working as quickly as possible to determine which students will receive funds based on the eligibility requirements as established by the USDOE. Currently, there is nothing for you to do. If you are eligible to receive funds, we will communicate directly with you through email.

Join us for a Virtual College Fair May 5 and 6. Our Center for Minority Excellence is hosting this online event for high school students and parents. Representatives from SLCC's CME, Admissions, Advising, and Financial Aid offices will be in attendance.

South Louisiana Community College’s Corporate College will now offer an online Notary Exam Prep course in addition to the online hybrid/in-person course. This course will prepare students for the State’s Notary exam administered on August 29.

To accommodate students needing to take the Accuplacer exam, SLCC's Testing Center is administering the test online. Testers must be able to access wifi and have a computer/laptop with a microphone and webcam.

These workshops are for all students who have final exams in their respective courses. These workshops are free.

Dr. Jeanine Thomas, associate dean of Nursing and Allied Health at South Louisiana Community College, is a member of Governor John Bel Edwards recently formed COVID-19 Health Equity Task Force. Specifically, Thomas was named to the Nursing Subcommittee.

Campus Bookstore Updates

While the bookstore is currently closed, you can visit the bookstore website at slcclafayetteshop.com for information on how to safely return your rented textbooks, including options for shipping your rentals to the bookstore - visit the website for more information.

SLCC will begin registering incoming students for the Summer semester the week of April 23.  Summer courses for incoming students will be offered in an online format.  SLCC is offering two types of online courses for students to choose from: “synchronous” courses which meet at specific times using online meeting tools and “asynchronous” courses which allow students to login at times that work with their schedule.

SLCC partners with CASHNet to let you pay tuition and fees over time, making college more affordable.  The earlier you sign up for a payment plan, the smaller your payments can be.

Effective Friday, April 3, South Louisiana Community College resumed processing of applications for the Practical Nursing and Registered Nursing programs.  We appreciate everyone’s patience and are pleased to be able to open the applications again.

Several higher education groups have joined together in support of the Student Veteran Coronavirus Response Act of 2020. The bipartisan companion of this bill, H.R. 6322, passed the House last week and included provisions. Several institutions of higher education, including SLCC, are waiting on further guidance once the legislation passes the Senate.  Please continue to check with the VA Office and the SLCC website for updates.
