Due to departmental trainings, the Office of Financial Aid will have limited office hours during the week of October 21-25, 2019.

Brandi Harrison has been employed with SLCC since April of this year and most recently transitioned into the new role of Employee Engagement Coordinator.

PTK leaders will support the Food Shelf Program by hosting a food drive to increase inventory. The Friday Food Fight food drive will take place on November 1. Food items can be dropped off at SLCC’s Lafayette Campus, 1101 Bertrand Drive in Lot I anytime between 1 and 3 p.m. or by driving through the gravel drive off of Lot E at 320 Devalcourt Street between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m.

In this 10-week course at the T.H. Harris Campus, students will have eight weeks of classroom training and two weeks of clinical training where they will learn the technical and procedural aspects of basic phlebotomy. Books and a test voucher for the Phlebotomy Technician Certification (CPT) are included in the tuition.

This 6-week course will be taught at SLCC‘s Gulf Campus in Abbeville starting this month. This course will expand to the Opelousas, Ville Platte, Crowley, St. Martinville, and Lafayette campuses over the next several months so more community members have this training option.

South Louisiana Community College will offer its Basic Industrial Scaffolding course at the SLCC Maritime and Corporate Training Center in Houma starting in November. The program is currently offered at the community college’s New Iberia Campus and has graduated more than 250 students.

On Thursday, October 10, a Career Information Fair will be hosted by South Louisiana Community College to highlight its Power Lineman program.  The event will be held from from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. on the Lafayette Campus in the Ardoin building, 1101 Bertrand Dr. This is a free event that is open to the public.

On Monday, Oct. 7, Vitalant will be on the Lafayette Campus for a blood drive from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Eric Fontenot, a general studies student at South Louisiana Community College, has been named a 2019 Oberndorf Scholar by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and has received a $1,000 scholarship. He is one of eight students selected internationally to receive this award.

Dr. Harmony Rochon has been named as the South Louisiana Community College (SLCC) Assistant Dean of Allied Health, strengthening the partnership between SLCC and National EMS Academy. With the signing of a recent memorandum of understanding (MOU), the programs within the National EMS Academy receive oversight, academic leadership and management under the direction of Rebecca Harris-Smith, EdD, MSN, RN, Dean of Nursing and Allied Health.

A partnership between South Louisiana Community College and St. Martin Parish Schools will offer dually-enrolled students the opportunity to earn college technical diplomas in a variety of programs while on a high school campus. The Collegiate Technical Academy, modeled after the Early College High School concept, offers the advanced training necessary for students to graduate and enter high-wage, high-demand careers.

CFRE International announces the most recent class of Certified Fund Raising Executives (CFREs), including Lana Fontenot, SLCC’s vice chancellor for Institutional Advancement and executive director of the SLCC Foundation.

A new program at South Louisiana Community College’s Evangeline Campus in St. Martinville will help fill workforce needs in the construction industry. The college, along with industry partners, cut the ribbon on the campus’ new carpentry program during a ceremony Monday.

Brandin Busch, Chief Aviation Officer for SLCC’s International School of Aviation Excellence in New Iberia, is former military, loves to fish, and enjoys a good dad joke.

Dr. Kevin Browning, SLCC’s new Director of the Center for Professional Development, is originally from Baton Rouge and attributes his success to hard work, perseverance and the determination to overcome any obstacle.

A Career Information Fair will be held from 4 – 6 p.m. on Sept. 12 for SLCC’s Commercial Truck Driving program in the Teche Building at SLCC’s New Iberia Campus, 908 Ember Drive. This is a free event that is open to the public.

South Louisiana Community College and Nicholls State University entered into a partnership today that will help students smoothly transfer from the community college to the university. Leadership from the community college and the university signed an articulation agreement, allowing students who have completed the Associate of General Studies degree program at SLCC to transfer all credits into the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies curriculum at Nicholls State.

LHC Group, Inc., a national provider of in-home healthcare services, and South Louisiana Community College recently unveiled a new home health lab for college nursing students in training. The lab, located on SLCC's campus in Lafayette, recreates a residential bedroom, living room, and bathroom area where nursing students can practice skills in a home health environment.

Two members of South Louisiana Community College’s executive team recently received promotions. Lana Fontenot has been promoted to Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement and Jermaine Ford has been promoted to Vice Chancellor for Economic and Workforce Development.

A Career Information Session will be hosted on Thursday, August 15, by SLCC’s Corporate College Carpentry program.  The event will take place at SLCC’s Lafayette Campus in the Ardoin Building, 1101 Bertrand Drive from 4– 6 p.m. This is a free event that is open to the public.

South Louisiana Community College’s Corporate College and Lemoine Manhattan are hosting an Industrial Trades Job Fair on Thursday, August 8. The event will take place at SLCC’s Devalcourt auditorium at 320 Devalcourt St in Lafayette from 9 a.m. to noon.

Want to earn your high school equivalency diploma at night? We’re holding registration sessions at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30 and Thursday, August 1 at the Kaliste Saloom Road Goodwill location in Lafayette.

All SLCC campuses will resume classes and normal business operations Wednesday, July 17.

Six new members have joined the 2019-20 Board of Directors for the South Louisiana Community College Foundation. The new members began a four-year term on July 1.
