The Communications and Marketing Office won the top prize in the Print Ad – Single category for an ad in the college’s recent Rural Marketing Campaign. The ad depicts welding student Trina Batiste from Crowley with the words learn, burn, earn.

As an additional measure to help our students cope with the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, our online payment plan provider, Cashnet, has decided to stop assessing late fees on Payment Plans.  If you are enrolled in auto-payments and are unable to make timely payments you can disable autopay without any penalty.

The online portal for students is getting a revamp. LoLA is getting a new look and we want to help with any questions you may have. We've put together a list of resources that can help with the new navigation.

Please note that only the commencement ceremony is being postponed.  Degrees will still be awarded at the end of this semester as long as requirements for graduation have been met.

We've got Student Life Coordinators for all our campuses and they are ready to help with remote learning. Need info on graduation? Need to schedule a tutoring session?

TEAS Exam Canceled

PLEASE NOTE -- The Louisiana Contractors Exams scheduled this week are canceled.  Students planning to take the TEAS exam Tuesday morning should check their email for a message from the Testing Center director. The exam will not be administered as scheduled because of the limited number of people who can gather in one spot.

South Louisiana Community College is seeing an increase in student enrollment this semester, despite decreasing national trends. The college is also experiencing an increase in enrollment from year-to-year. According to Debbie Tabchouri, director of Enrollment Management, the college saw a 7 percent increase in enrollment for Spring 2020 compared to Spring 2019. This follows a 5.7 percent increase experienced in the fall 2019 semester.

More than 30 employers and universities will be at SLCC’s T.H. Harris Campus Thursday, March 12 for a Career and Transfer Fair. The event will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at 1 p.m. The T.H. Harris Campus is located at 332 E. South Street in Opelousas. Students, alumni, and the public are invited to visit with employers looking to hire during this free event. Visitors are encouraged to bring copies of their resumes.

SLCC’s Corporate College will host a job fair focused on the industrial trades on Thursday, March 12 from 9 a.m. to noon at SLCC’s New Iberia Campus located at 908 Ember Drive.  This is a free event that is open to the public.

We are closely monitoring the COVID-19 Coronavirus and are in constant contact with the Louisiana Department of Public Health.  The College is also following guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control.  There are currently no confirmed cases in Louisiana as of 03/02/20.

SLCC’s Foundation will recognize donors and scholarship recipients during a reception Monday. Students will be honored along with several donors, including the American Society of Nondestructive Testing, Cleco, LAGCOE, Louisiana CAT, Rotary of Lafayette, H&B Young Foundation, Lt. Dronet and Gulf Coast Bank, Mellington Family, and more.

South Louisiana Community College is hosting several job fairs in the coming weeks starting with two on Tuesday, March 12. Job seekers can also visit the online job board: www.collegecentral.com/solacc

The Gulf Area Campus will host it's 4th Annual Little Miss Paige Levine Mardi Gras Parade, Thursday, Feb. 20 at 11 a.m. on the campus grounds.

Of the eight graduates, two will continue their studies at SLCC to earn their Medical Assistant degree. The six other graduates have found jobs in the healthcare industry.

The Small Business Boot Camp is a 2-week night course offered in Lafayette by SLCC’s Corporate College division for community members wanting to start their own business or expand their business skills.

SLCC’s Corporate College is hosting their semi-annual Industrial Trades Job Fair on Tuesday, March 12. The event will take place at SLCC New Iberia located at 908 Ember Dr. from 9 a.m. – noon.

SLCC to host 3rd Annual LCTCS OER conference February 7 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. in the Devalcourt Building. This is the largest ever OER system conference with over 120 attendees.

Registration for a new ACT Prep course to prepare for the April ACT exam is now open. The course will be offered on Saturdays from 9a.m. – noon at SLCC’s Lafayette and Crowley campuses starting February 15, 2020.  Registration is available online at bit.ly/SLCCACTPREP.

The Offices of Financial Aid and Student Accounts are currently working diligently to process the disbursement of financial aid funds. All refunds are issued to students through BankMobile.
