A first-of-its-kind partnership in Louisiana between South Louisiana Community College and St. Landry Parish Schools will offer dually-enrolled students the opportunity to earn college technical diplomas in a variety of programs while on a high school campus.
Class will be held June through October on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. so those working in banking and law can attend class during the business day.

South Louisiana Community College will be offering its 15-week Basic Welding program at its Gulf Area Campus in Abbeville and its T.H. Harris Campus in Opelousas beginning in May. The Corporate College division already offers short-term welding courses in Lafayette and Morgan City. The expansion of this program is to meet industry needs.
Mary Broussard recently donated a limited-edition “Pioneers of Nursing” print by artist Todd Treadway to SLCC’s Nursing and Allied Health Division. This print depicts the strength and pride of nursing five founding women (Dorothea Lynde Dix, Florence Nightingale, Clara Barton, Mary Eliza Mahoney, and Clara Louise Maass).
A donation from Superior Carriers will help train future truck drivers at South Louisiana Community College. The college’s Commercial Vehicle Operation program received a tank trailer from Superior Carriers this week.
Potential students and parents throughout Acadiana can learn about academic programs, admissions, and financial aid from South Louisiana Community College faculty, staff, and students during a series of Campus Preview Days March 25 - 28. All Campus Preview Days will be from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. These events are free and open to the public.
Current students can begin registering for summer and fall courses on March 11. Open registration for new students begins March 25.
More than 30 employers and universities will be at SLCC’s T.H. Harris Campus Thursday, March 14 for a Career and Transfer Fair. The event will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at 1 p.m. The T.H. Harris Campus is located at 332 E. South Street in Opelousas.
All SLCC campuses will be closed for Mardi Gras, March 5. Have a safe and happy holiday!

SLCC Chancellor Dr. Natalie Harder has been tapped for a national board position for the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta’s Human Capital Advisory Council. The Human Capital Advisory Council assists in the Bank’s assessment of both short-term fluctuations and long-term structural issues related to labor markets, as well as human capital development and its impact on economic vitality, and ultimately, its monetary policy deliberations.
Welders, HVAC repairmen, truck drivers, carpenters, equipment operators, lineman, laborers, electricians, and other skilled tradesmen will have an opportunity to meet local companies hiring for positions in the industrial trades. SLCC’s Corporate College will host a job fair focused on the Industrial Trades on Thursday, February 7 from 9am-noon at their New Iberia Campus located at 908 Ember Dr. This is a free event that is open to the public.
South Louisiana Community College will cut the ribbon on its new Power Lineman program on Thursday, Feb. 7 at its Acadian Campus. The event will happen during a Business After Hours program held in conjunction with the Acadia Parish Chamber of Commerce. The event starts at 5 p.m. with the ribbon cutting set for 6 p.m.
All campuses will be open Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019.
Discovery College at SLCC offers a unique summer camp experience with sessions in CSI investigating, video game making, robotics, STEM, drawing and painting, and ACT prep. The fun begins Monday, June 3.

South Louisiana Community College and Nicholls State University entered into a historic partnership with student success as a priority. Leadership from the community college and the university signed four articulation agreements, guaranteeing smooth transfer options for students.
More than 800 students were candidates for graduation from South Louisiana Community College for the Fall 2018 semester. This year’s Commencement ceremony was held Thursday, Dec. 13, at the Cajundome Convention Center. For the first time in history, the college also recognized its Adult Education graduates during its Commencement.
