Advanced Welding Technology

The Advanced Welding Technology certificate allows you to continue developing your skills beyond the current Welding Technical Diploma program with an additional 990 contact hours focused primarily on pipe welding techniques. 

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Learn various processes and techniques of pipe welding in all positions including shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, flux-cored arc welding, and gas tungsten arc welding. You will have the opportunity to earn NCCER Level 3 credentials.

DEGREE PLAN: Certificate of Technical Studies in Advanced Welding Technology - 2 semesters

WHEN/WHERE: Starts in the Fall at the St. Martinville Campus.

REQUIREMENTS: Students must meet one of the three requirements below to enroll in this program.

  • Earned a technical diploma in Welding from SoLAcc or another accredited institution.
  • Possess NCCER Core, Welding Level 1, and Welding Level 2 credentials and pass hands-on performance test*.
  • A minimum of one year of welding experience as a structural welder and pass hands-on performance test*.

*Performance test should be scheduled before enrolling in the welding courses. Students must have their degree/credentials/experience assessed and approved by the appropriate college official.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

Students who successfully complete this certificate:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in safely operating equipment and tools used in the welding industry.
  • Demonstrate and apply skills necessary to perform quality pipe welds in all positions using the following processes: SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of weld quality, destructive weld examination, non- destructive weld examination, and various welding codes.

Upon completion of this program, graduates are prepared for high-level welding positions within the industry.
