Program Overview
Our Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) is designed to prepare students to become Registered Nurses (RNs) with the knowledge, skills, ability, values, and competencies required to practice nursing at the professional level. The program includes classroom instruction and clinical experiences, enabling students to provide care to patients in various healthcare settings, ranging from acute care facilities to hospice or home care.
There are two educational tracks available in the ASN program:
- LPN to RN Transition track (Opelousas & New Iberia Campuses) - for current LPNs who want to become RNs
- ASN track (Lafayette Campus)

Students will have the opportunity to make clinical rounds at different healthcare settings in the Acadiana area, including acute care facilities, outpatient facilities, home health agencies, and hospice care. Some courses in the program have prerequisites, which must be completed before enrolling in upper-level courses and continuing in the program.

Choose your career pathway with different track options. And once you graduate, you'll get licensed by passing the NCLEX exam. Then, you can begin your career right away, or continue your education to get your Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
FLEXIBLE OPTIONS
In addition, 2+2 pathways offer students the opportunity to complete the first half of a bachelor’s degree program at SoLAcc. After earning an associate degree at SoLAcc, students seamlessly transfer to a partnering university to complete the second half of the chosen pathway, leading to their bachelor’s degree. Students can complete the Associate of Science in Nursing at SoLAcc and transfer into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at Nicholls State University with mininal loss of credits.
